About the WMU Tartan

Your unique tartan pattern was created using our proprietary algorithm, which combines the year WMU was founded - 1903 - with the geographic coordinates of its Kalamazoo campus - 42.282° N, 85.614° W.

The individual thread counts reveal your unique time and place in history using WMU's official primary colors - Brown and Gold. WMU's heart, mind, and spirit are also expressed through these secondary colors:

  • White for the heartbeat of your engaged, active campus
  • Tan for your pedagogical roots as a teachers' college
  • Beige for the guiding spirit of WMU's Gold Standard
