About the UB Tartan

Your unique tartan pattern was created using our proprietary algorithm, which combines the year the University at Buffalo was founded - 1846 - with the geographic coordinates of its campus - 43.000° N, 78.789° W.

The individual thread counts reveal your unique time and place in history using UB's official primary colors - Blue and White. UB's heart, mind, and spirit are also expressed through these secondary colors:

  • White for your enduring passion for global outreach and impact
  • Gray for your emphasis on developing deep domain knowledge
  • Navy for your spirit of pragmatic optimism
